But the weeks passed. Applications went unanswered. Interviews led nowhere. Each rejection made him feel less confident.
He began waking up early to leave the house as usual, spending hours searching for work, and returning home pretending that everything was normal.
“I kept thinking that if I told you, I would make it real,” he said. “And I was afraid you’d see me as someone who couldn’t take care of his family.”
I sat beside him.
“Daniel, we’re married. You’re not supposed to carry everything alone.”
He nodded, but tears were running down his cheeks.
“I know that now. I think I just got so frightened that I forgot how to ask for help.”
I took his hand.
“We have children, bills, responsibilities, and a thousand things to worry about. But we’re supposed to face those things together. I don’t need you to be invincible. I need you to be honest with me.”
