“We need something new,” he announced.
I glanced at him.
“Something new like a vacation? Because I already told you I’m not spending another week at a resort where you complain about the Wi-Fi.”
He laughed, but there was something unusual about the way he looked at me.
“No. I mean something that could actually change things between us.”
I put the plates down.
“Okay. You’re starting to scare me. What are you talking about?”
Sean hesitated for a moment, then said the words that would change everything.
“What if we swapped partners with Nancy and Alex for a week?”
I stared at him.
For several seconds, I honestly thought he was joking.
Nancy had been my closest friend for almost twelve years. She had attended my mother’s funeral, helped me through a difficult period at work, and spent countless weekends sitting at my kitchen table, talking about everything from money to marriage.
