My Daughter’s Innocent Question on Father’s Day Changed Everything (And Taught Me the True Meaning of Presence)

I sat alone in the living room until almost 2 a.m.

I kept replaying Lily’s words.

“He comes over when you’re at work.”

“Mommy makes dinner for him.”

“He told me he’s my real daddy.”

On Thursday, I did something I never thought I would do.

I checked our home security system.

We had a camera facing the driveway.

I opened the app and searched through previous recordings.

Monday.

Nothing.

Tuesday.

Delivery driver.

Wednesday.

Melissa leaving for the grocery store.

Then I checked older footage.

That’s when I noticed something strange.

Several recordings were missing.

Not corrupted.

Deleted.

Specifically, recordings between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on certain weekdays.

Times when I was usually at work.

I stared at the screen.

Melissa knew the security password.

My hands started shaking.

This was no longer a child’s misunderstanding.

Someone had deliberately deleted those recordings.

I almost confronted her that night.
