“Why are you crying, Mark?”
He looked at me for a long moment.
“Because Daniel did something for me that I don’t know how to repay.”
Mark explained that earlier in the year, he had faced a serious family emergency. His young daughter had needed an unexpected medical procedure, and the expenses had placed enormous pressure on his household.
Daniel had quietly helped him.
He had covered some immediate expenses, connected Mark with people who could help, and taken on additional work so that Mark could spend time with his family.
“He never told anyone,” Mark said. “When I tried to thank him, he told me not to mention it. He said that if I ever found myself in a position to help someone else, I should do the same.”
I felt tears rising in my eyes.
Daniel had never mentioned any of this at home.
Mark continued, explaining that Daniel had also been helping another colleague who was struggling after a family loss. He had offered practical support, covered shifts when needed, and stayed late to help coworkers finish difficult assignments.
