According to the band’s tribute, the musicians rehearsed in the basement of Parazaider’s mother’s home before beginning to perform in local Chicago-area venues.
What started as a young, largely unknown group eventually became an international success.
A Sound That Was Impossible to Mistake
Parazaider played saxophone, flute, and other woodwind instruments, becoming a crucial part of Chicago’s distinctive sound.
Alongside trumpeter Lee Loughnane and trombonist James Pankow, he helped establish the band’s prominent brass and woodwind section.
His playing could be heard across some of Chicago’s best-known recordings. His flute work on “Colour My World” became particularly recognizable, while his saxophone performances contributed to the band’s broader musical identity.
For listeners, those instruments were more than background decoration. They were part of what separated Chicago from many of its rock contemporaries.
From Local Bars to International Fame
The band’s early days were far removed from the enormous success that would eventually follow.
