“You should have told me the truth,” I finally said.
Michael nodded.
“I know. We made a mistake. I thought I was protecting you, but instead, I left you alone with terrible suspicions.”
Emily hugged me.
“Forgive me, Mom. I just didn’t want to lose you.”
Dr. Wilson gave us a few minutes to calm down before explaining the next steps.
He said I needed additional cardiac testing. Only then could the doctors determine whether treatment was necessary.
That evening, for the first time in years, I agreed to see a doctor instead of running away from my fear.
But the story didn’t end there.
The following week, I completed all the examinations.
It turned out that I had a heart rhythm disorder that needed treatment and monitoring.
The doctor explained that the condition could be managed if I followed my treatment plan and attended regular checkups.
When we left the hospital, Michael stood silently beside the car.
