Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion-like crash before seeing debris scattered across the roadway. Several motorists immediately stopped to assist while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said one witness. “People were doing everything they could to help, but the damage was terrible.”
Firefighters had to use specialized hydraulic rescue equipment to free occupants trapped inside the wreckage of the car. Despite their efforts, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of their injuries.
The truck driver sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. Authorities said the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
