PART 2 – My Son Said I Never Came

“I used to work for the government.”

“What kind of work?”

“Threat assessment and protective intelligence.”

Her expression remained neutral. “Were you acquainted with Warren Hale before you married his daughter?”

“No.”

“Are you certain?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did he have a photograph of you from that period?”

“I don’t know.”

She studied me for several seconds.

“Your wife’s family says Jake’s injuries were caused by a fall.”

I stared at her.

“All three men gave nearly identical statements,” she continued. “They claim Jake became upset, ran toward the driveway, tripped over a garden border, and struck his head. They deny restraining him.”

“He didn’t invent those details.”

“I’m not suggesting he did.”

“Then arrest them.”

“The scene is being examined. Officers are interviewing neighbors. Medical findings will matter. So will the timing of every phone call and message.”

I forced myself to breathe.

“Where is Christine?”
