His hands kept moving.
Before we entered, he approached me in the hallway.
“Olivia.”
Rachel shifted closer.
“It’s okay,” I told her.
Mason stopped in front of me.
“We don’t have to do this.”
“Yes, we do.”
“We could move.”
I stared at him.
“What?”
“Get our own apartment. No parents. No family involvement. Just us.”
He spoke quickly now.
“I should’ve defended you from Mom. I know that.”
I almost felt sorry for him.
Almost.
“You still don’t understand what happened.”
“I do.”
“No. You think your mother was the problem.”
“She was part of it.”
“You threw the rag.”
His face tightened.
“It wasn’t supposed to hurt you.”
“I’m not talking about whether it physically hurt.”
“I was joking.”
“You threatened my family afterward.”
“You embarrassed me.”
“You sent people after me.”
“I was angry.”
“You publicly called me a thief.”
“You took the money.”
