“You’re free to delete your posts.”
“And yours?”
“No.”
“You’re going to ruin my son’s future over this?”
“I didn’t send his messages. I didn’t send Savannah to my friend’s apartment. I didn’t make him use his work email. I didn’t force him to post lies about me.”
She said nothing.
I continued.
“You keep describing consequences as things I’m doing to him.”
Then I ended the call.
The next morning, Rachel called.
“They want to settle.”
I sat on the edge of my bed.
“What are they asking?”
“They’ve dropped the demand for wedding expenses. Dropped the public apology. They’ll consent to the divorce.”
“And the money?”
“Two hundred and fifty thousand.”
“No.”
“I expected that.”
“My original offer stands.”
“One hundred thousand?”
“Until noon tomorrow.”
Rachel was silent for a second.
“You understand you may be able to fight this without returning that amount.”
