Thursday Night: The First Discovery
I started with the simplest question.
Had Sean and Alex discussed the arrangement before bringing it to us?
I already knew the answer.
What I didn’t know was how far the conversations had gone.
I thought about the messages Sean had received over the previous few weeks. He had become unusually protective of his phone, carrying it from room to room and turning it face down whenever I entered.
That alone didn’t prove anything.
People deserve privacy in relationships.
But secrecy becomes a different matter when it involves decisions that affect a spouse’s life.
I didn’t need to break into his accounts or secretly access private information.
Instead, I decided to ask direct questions and pay attention to the answers.
I also called a lawyer I had consulted years earlier about an unrelated family matter.
I wasn’t filing for divorce that night.
I simply wanted to understand my options if the situation turned out to be more serious than I expected.
