Tobias nodded.
“She knows enough to recognize the financial trail. But she doesn’t know about tonight.”
“Call her,” I said.
Samuel looked at me for a long moment, then picked up his phone.
Special Agent Brooks arrived shortly after midnight in an unmarked vehicle. She was a composed Black woman in her forties, dressed in a dark raincoat, with sharp eyes that missed very little.
She listened without interrupting as Tobias explained what had happened. When I described the wire tied around my seat belt, her expression hardened.
“Did either of you see Garrett tamper with the vehicle?”
“No,” I said. “But I found the wire after the crash. And he escaped without attempting to help us.”
“That’s important. The vehicle may still be recoverable. We need to secure it before anyone can remove evidence.”
She studied the video and the financial records.
“Some of these transfers match transactions we’ve been tracking for months,” she said. “If these records are authentic, the case is much larger than suspected corporate fraud.”
