I read the letter twice.
Not because I was considering his request.
Because I wanted to understand how he could describe a planned lockout, a disputed loan application, and the removal of my belongings as though they were unfortunate consequences of stress.
I folded the letter.
Then placed it back inside the envelope.
Monica watched me.
“Are you all right?”
I nodded.
“Yes.”
Then I added:
“I think I’m finally finished trying to explain myself to him.”
She smiled gently.
“That’s a meaningful decision.”
The weeks that followed were filled with practical work.
I restored the condo.
Changed access credentials under the appropriate orders.
Replaced missing documents.
Reviewed account security.
Separated shared financial arrangements as advised.
And resumed my ordinary routines.
I also returned to counseling.
Not because Adrian had successfully convinced me I was dramatic.
But because betrayal had changed how safe I felt in the place I loved.
