My Husband Changed the Locks on My Condo and Threw Me Out—Then the Police Found Out What He Was Hiding Inside

She wasn’t simply supporting him in a marital argument.

She was connected to a business that expected to receive money secured by my property.

I looked at Monica.

“Do you think they planned to take the money and leave me responsible?”

She took a breath.

“We don’t know everything yet. But the application and proposed disbursement raise serious questions.”

I stared at the figures.

Three hundred eighty thousand dollars.

A sum large enough to place my financial security at risk.

I thought about the nights I’d worked overtime to afford the condo.

The years I’d spent paying the mortgage.

The money my grandparents had saved.

And the six years I’d spent reassuring Adrian that I didn’t think less of him because I owned our home.

He’d accused me of using the condo against him.

Yet he’d apparently tried to use it without my permission.

Monica closed the folder.

“We’ll work to stop any unauthorized transaction. We’ll also preserve the evidence and seek relief concerning your residence.”
