My Daughter’s New Friend Came to Our Home—Then One Look at His Phone Changed the Mood Completely
It was supposed to be an ordinary Saturday afternoon.
My daughter had asked if a new friend from school could come over for a few hours. She had mentioned his name several times during the previous week, always casually, always with the same excitement children have when they discover someone they genuinely enjoy spending time with.
“Can he come over tomorrow?” she asked over breakfast.
“Sure,” I said. “As long as you clean your room first.”
She laughed, rolled her eyes, and disappeared upstairs.
Nothing about the conversation seemed unusual.
I had met plenty of my daughter’s classmates before. Children make friends quickly, and parents often get introduced almost as an afterthought. I expected the usual afternoon: snacks, video games, music, laughter, and eventually an argument over what movie to watch.
When the doorbell rang a few hours later, I wasn’t expecting anything memorable.
