I froze in fear.
“Mom, what was that?”
She immediately covered her stomach.
“Nothing, Sarah. Please, don’t ask.”
The next morning, I practically forced her to go to the hospital.
At first, the doctor suspected a large mass in her abdomen.
But just a few minutes into the ultrasound examination, his expression changed dramatically.
He stared at the screen for a long time, then called another doctor.
The second doctor called a third.
By then, I was already crying.
“Please, tell me. Is my mother dying?”
The doctor turned toward me.
“Your mother is pregnant.”
I thought I had misheard him.
“What are you talking about? She’s 82 years old!”
“I know. And that’s exactly why we need to be extremely careful.”
Further examinations confirmed the impossible.
My mother really was carrying a baby.
The doctors explained that natural pregnancy at her age was practically impossible, and they were trying to understand how this could have happened.
