Adrian wiped his eyes.
I continued.
“When she came home unconscious, I asked you to help me. You laughed. When I found bruises, you called me dramatic. When I wanted a doctor, you tried to stop me.”
The courtroom was silent.
“You didn’t just hurt Maya. You taught her that the people closest to her might ignore her pain.”
I looked toward the judge.
“I cannot undo what happened. But I can make sure my daughter knows that I believed her, that I fought for her, and that she never deserved any of it.”
I folded my statement.
Then I looked at Adrian one final time.
“You wanted control over her future. You have lost the right to decide what that future looks like.”
I sat down.
He didn’t look at me again.
The judge imposed a substantial prison sentence on Adrian, reflecting the seriousness of the offenses and his role in directing the scheme.
