“Serious charges are being pursued. I can’t promise an outcome.”
That answer hurt.
But I appreciated her honesty.
I had spent too long listening to a man who always claimed to know exactly what would happen.
I no longer needed promises.
I needed the truth.
Then Hayes handed me one final page.
“This was recovered from Adrian’s laptop.”
It was an email draft.
The subject line read:
Emergency Petition Regarding Maternal Instability and Medical Neglect.
My stomach turned.
The document described me as emotionally volatile, resistant to medical advice, and unwilling to accept Maya’s alleged diagnosis.
It included invented incidents.
Arguments taken out of context.
Claims that I had threatened to leave the state with our daughter.
At the bottom was a proposed statement.
“Given the mother’s inability to act in the child’s best interests, the father requests temporary sole authority over all medical and financial decisions affecting the minor.”
