That is why the image is best understood as a historical fragment rather than a prophecy.
From Childhood to History
Donald Trump’s journey from a child growing up in Queens to a figure at the center of American political life spans many decades.
The official biography records a path through New York, military school, the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, real estate, publishing, television and eventually presidential politics.
That is an extraordinary amount of life between one childhood photograph and the presidential portrait millions recognize today.
And perhaps that is the most interesting thing about the image.
Not that the child somehow predicted the future.
But that the future was completely unknown.
Every person begins life without knowing what the world will eventually ask of them.
Some become teachers.
Some become parents.
Some become artists.
Some become business owners.
Some become politicians.
Most live lives that never attract national attention.
