But sometimes you become fully awake.
And if you happen to look at the clock, you may notice that it is 3:00 or 4:00 a.m.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that something unusual is happening.
Why Does It Seem to Happen at the Same Time?
One reason is your sleep schedule.
If you normally go to bed at a similar time every night, your sleep cycles may follow a relatively predictable pattern.
As the night progresses, the balance between different sleep stages changes.
Toward morning, sleep tends to become lighter, with more REM sleep and less deep sleep.
That can make some people more likely to awaken during the second half of the night.
If your usual wake-up time is around 6 or 7 a.m., waking at 3 or 4 a.m. may occur during a period when your sleep is already becoming somewhat lighter.
That doesn’t mean your body is sending a mysterious warning.
