Shriners Children’s+1
Seven days is barely enough time for most newborns to settle into the world outside the womb.
At that age, parents are usually learning feeding routines, adjusting to interrupted sleep, and memorizing the tiny expressions on their baby’s face.
Kaleb was already facing a medical procedure.
The contrast is difficult to ignore.
Yet the story of his childhood cannot be understood through suffering alone. Just as important is the dedication of the people who helped him grow, the developing medical treatments available to him, and the personality he gradually revealed to the world.
His earliest experiences may have been shaped by a serious medical condition, but his future would also be shaped by relationships, education, humor, and the determination to participate in life.
That distinction matters.
Children with disabilities are sometimes portrayed exclusively through the difficulties they face, as though their medical histories contain everything worth knowing about them.
