“I’ll never forget last night. I just hope Mom never finds out.”
I felt my heart tighten.
Just then, my daughter came home.
I showed her the photo.
“Emily, tell me the truth. What are you and Michael hiding from me?”
Her face went pale.
“Mom, it’s not what you think.”
“Then explain it!”
My daughter burst into tears.
“Please, don’t ask me right now. We’re not ready to tell you yet.”
At that moment, Michael came out of the bathroom.
When he saw the phone in my hand, he stopped in his tracks.
“Sarah, I can explain, but I’m afraid you’ll never trust me again afterward.”
“Are you two together?” I asked, my voice trembling.
Neither of them answered.
The next evening, they went out together again.
I decided to follow them.
Twenty minutes later, Michael’s car stopped outside an old building on the outskirts of town.
